Canada shows interest investing in the cyber security sector
Canada is interested in investing in the garment sector and infrastructure projects in Bangladesh, including cyber security. In this case, the country wants to complete the investment agreement with Bangladesh.
The delegation led by Canada's Indo-Pacific Trade Representative Paul Thopil expressed this interest in a courtesy meeting with State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu at the Secretariat on Sunday (May 19).
During the meeting, the Minister of State for Commerce said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Bangladesh is going to transition from a Least Developed Country (LDC). Going forward through trade agreements with various countries to gain market advantage. Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) negotiations started today. The Ministry of Commerce is working to improve relations with various countries of the world, especially ASEAN countries.
Indo-Pacific trade representative Paul Thopil praised the development of Bangladesh and said that the relationship between Bangladesh and Canada is important in the Indo-Pacific region. Canada wants to conclude an investment agreement with Bangladesh to attract investment companies. Canada is interested in investing in cyber security, apparel sector as well as infrastructure projects. Canola oil can be exported to the country, setting up an oil factory here will make it easier to process the oil.
Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Lily Nichols, Commercial Councilor Debra Boyes, Asia-Pacific Vice President Chief of Staff Brad Coyle, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DG) Khandaker Masudul Alam, Ministry of Commerce Joint Secretary Nahid Afroz and others were present.
